The plots are sitcom appropriate, but clearly, this world is not accepting Wanda easily and something outside it is trying to pull her back. So far, this shows central conflict seems to be around Wanda protecting her happily ever after. Wanda tries to become friend with her neighbours, but when she asks her friend Agnes if she can "Just be herself", this is met with laughter. The second episode's plot revolves around a magic show the couple are performing. Visions boss refers to Sokovian's as Bolsheviks, there are apparently 'Unsavory Characters' in the neighbourhood, and communism is referenced early on.

There are scenes filmed outside for example, and Wanda and Vision share a bed (something not deemed acceptable on TV in the 50s).īut even without the Marvel Easter eggs, there is clearly something sinister in the world of the show thematically and physically. Aside from the fashion, the shows production values jump too in small ways. The second episode is more of a Bewitched parody (complete with a new intro), and there are subtle signs we've moved into the 60s. As such, you have to take the sitcom on its own merits, and its period-appropriate cheesy nature could lose some viewers early on. While admittedly this is early in its run, the show holds a lot back on the true nature of itself. I'm curious to see if some viewers will find this aspect frustrating. It is a sitcom about outsiders trying to blend in to a 'normal' existence.

WANDAVISION EPISODE 1 THEORIES SERIES

It's impressive how much WandaVision commits to its own premise! There are clues of something sinister going on (more on that later), but you could be forgiven for accepting this series as what it presents itself to be. But no, we get a faithfully recreated American 50s sitcom, complete with a corny plot! Wanda and Vision have a miscommunication about their dinner plans, and so Vision invites his boss home to their private anniversary dinner. Even the aspect ratio of the show is appropriately tiny!īased on the trailer, I had assumed the TV callbacks would be a small aspect of a more grounded series. The show is black and white, the house is clearly a stage set. We begin with a song! Rather than easing us into the show, we open with an I Love Lucy style intro complete with Vision and Wanda arriving in their wedding clothes. And while these characters probably aren't as popular as Loki, the strange nature of this series, as glimpsed in promo adds, fueled speculation and interest for months!īut does the series make a good first impression? This show is the first Marvel instalment in a huge variety of shows for Disney Plus. "In a real magic act, everything is fake!"
