That comes at the expense of significantly higher supply voltages and another active stage. The most significant advantage to the CCS is in fact only the increase in gain. Based on measurements made by myself and many others over the years, distortion levels are well below audibility. Even if they did, there's no "second harmonic glaze" with tubes such as the 'SN7 and 'SL7 when anode resistors are used. No audiophile I know wants to hear distortion, even-order or otherwise.
